Scientific studies have shown that a majority of individuals that exhibit reading problems are affected by subjective visual perception. When reading, the visual channels have to work precisely timed together so that there is no overlap of visual information.

Science has proven the positive effects of the influences of colors while reading. Especially the color blue leads to a phasic activity of the channels, which leads to an increase in reading achievement, reading comprehension and reading speed. The color thus supports the sub-processes of the visual sensors.

Fun Foods for Kids & Grownups: Your essential guide to family fun & good health by Linda Davis Kyle introduces its menu highlights through a fantasy story, “Adventures in Abunda Gardens,” that not only intrigues youngsters to try the recipes from the magical gardens, but also it brings families together for the joy of reading, bonding, and exchanging ideas. With its smart-start recipes, it helps avoid “good-for-you” and “bad- for-you” traps, fosters a rational attitude about foods, and enhances high self-esteem and emotional stability.

It offers tips for staying trim and encourages adults to model the beauty of exercise and fitness for their children. It also nurtures learning with fun facts and historical data, shares a wealth of additional reading materials, includes a useful appendix, a handy index, and outlines sample menu ‘highlights’ for two weeks. Most of all, it reminds its readers to make every day a celebration of life and good health.

An Entertainment Fun Book for Parents of Dyslexic Pre-teens
David Carlson
Linda Davis-Kyle, Editor
Foreword by Dr. Astrid Kopp-Duller, President of the Austrian Dyslexia Association

“Ready, Set, Action! is destined to become not only a loyal friend to the parents of preteens
challenged with dyslexia, but also it is hoped that it will be a boon to their
young learners. This fun book is brimming with an abundance of writing and
performing exercises that reveal the world as an exciting learning laboratory. It
supplies an index to boost its usefulness as an efficient teaching tool and popular
instructional guide for parents and teachers of dyslexic ‘tweens. At its heart, it reviews
basic grammar with relevant and positive examples and incremental building blocks
to foster do-it-yourself confidence to enhance self-esteem in students, who, too often,
are misunderstood and forgotten.”
Linda Davis-Kyle, MA, Editor, Ready, Set, Action!

About David Carlson:

David Carlson knows all too well the struggles and trials of dyslexic students. As a youth he
embraced not only American Sign Language (ASL) but also creative listening to cope with the
challenges of dyslexia. To help build his self-esteem and confidence, his parents, Dan and Carla
Carlson, encouraged him to learn to play guitar and to act. His uncle, Mark Yeager, introduced him
to the exciting world of magic. Subsequently, Carlson became a magician. Now, each week, he
performs magic tricks for the children in the Adolescents’ Unit at the Austin state Hospital (ASH). It
probably was his late grandfather, George Yeager, an art dealer based in Chicago, Illinois, USA, who
inspired him most with the life-changing words, “You are the architect of your own life” and taught
him never to give up on his dreams. Instead, his grandfather taught Carlson to see his challenge as a
beautiful gift that drives him to make his dreams come true. With the book Ready, Set, Action! An
Entertainment Fun Book for Parents of Dyslexic Pre-teens: Adventures in Writing & Performing,
Carlson’s heartfelt goal is to help dyslexics around the world to make their dreams come true, too.

About Linda Davis-Kyle:

Linda Davis-Kyle, MA in English, ACCET certified to instruct English as a Foreign Language, and
writer, whose general interest and educational articles have been published in a dozen countries on
five continents, is the primary author of The Writer’s Friend, Fun Foods for Kids & Grownups,
Change Your Life with Martial Arts, and the e-book, Writing Tips Galore. Davis-Kyle also edits
professionally, gives parenting seminars on safety and nutrition, and teaches writing composition to
guide aspiring writers of all ages to make their dreams to write and to be published come true. Most
recently, Davis-Kyle worked some magic to help make Ready, Set, Action! An Entertainment Fun
Book for Parents of Dyslexic Pre-teens: Adventures in Writing & Performing come true for David
Carlson, whose dream is to help other dyslexics like himself.

By Linda Davis-Kyle, MA

The wonderful learning “treasure storehouses” of the world are certain to enchant your youngsters, foster their development as they grow and change, and enhance their love of learning. Young learners will be over the moon in many of the grand repositories—the wonderful museums and art galleries of the world—where they actually are invited to examine artefacts, touch art, and feel sculptures treated to withstand wear and tear. Abundant hands-on activities and a host of physical exercises create indelible understanding with a favorable result that echoes the Chinese proverb:

“Tell me, and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I’ll understand.”

In the following article you can also find out where to go. There are some museums (from all over the world) listed, where your children can learn joyfully.

A new educational card game for word formulation helps children with reading and writing difficulties due to dyslexia to learn reading and writing more easily. The idea is simple: Making words with cards! With these cards, printed by the renowned Viennese card game company Piatnik, one can formulate letters and words using play.

Scientific background:

The educational card game “Letters2Words” was developed as a result of scientific discoveries that three-dimensional symbols are easier to recognize and retain.

The three-dimensional presentation of letters supports the immersion process and facilitates the child’s connection with them.

Scientific research has shown that this process is a crucial requirement for people to learn writing and reading more easily and satisfactorily.

Through a series of activities, participants identify with the horses and learn how to better communicate with others. Participants work on problem-solving games, such as moving the horse through an obstacle course. Activities help clients learn to trust their thought processes as well as work in a team to think and act outside their comfort zone. Eqine Therapy increases empathy through grooming activities and caring for the horses. The horses keep the participants in the moment, focused on a task and completely honest. All EAP sessions are facilitated by a licensed therapist or a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern under supervision of a BBS licensed supervisor.
