Every Tuesday, we open up one lesson of the Dyslexia Trainer Certification Program here on the blog, all 48 of them, one week at a time. Whether you are a teacher, a parent, or an education professional, this series shows you exactly what certified dyslexia trainers learn, and how the program works from the inside.
This week: Additional Teaching Methods for Dyslexia. Exploring Four Classic Approaches II
Dr. Beve Hornsby’s Alpha to Omega Method is a structured, multisensory approach that follows the natural stages of language acquisition, usable from around age six through high school graduation. A central principle: students should not experience repeated failure. Each step flows into the next, with clear exercises designed for steady, achievable success. This lesson takes you deep into how the method works in practice.
What this lesson is about
Dr. Beve Hornsby has worked with and developed the Alpha to Omega Method, a structured, multisensory approach designed to help children and adolescents with dyslexia. The method addresses reading and spelling difficulties systematically and has proven highly effective in reducing the challenges dyslexic learners face.

The alphabet is taught through both visual and auditory channels, using flashcards with printed symbols and tactile wooden letters. Instruction begins with uppercase letters and gradually expands to the full alphabet. Students practice:
